A dual shaft NEMA 17 stepper motor is a type of stepper motor that has two shafts, rather than one. One shaft is the typical output shaft that rotates when the motor is energized, while the other shaft is a secondary, non-rotating shaft that extends out of the back or side of the motor. This secondary shaft can be used to attach and drive other components, such as gears or pulleys. Dual shaft NEMA 17 motors typically have a step angle of 1.8 degrees, and can provide a holding torque of around 0.4 Nm (56 oz-in). They are similar to regular NEMA 17 stepper motors, but with the added feature of the additional shaft, they provide more flexibility in terms of system design and functionality.
